  • Netscreen - High performance firewall, VPN, traffic shaping

ComTest is happy to bring the Netscreen family of firewall, VPN and traffic shaping products on board!

When considering the NetScreen Security Products you probably will find that:

NetScreen offers 10x the performance at 1/10th the cost of the products available which could equate to a 100% value gain!

Security, for too long, has been synonymous with slow speed. Soon we will have 10Gig speed networks. At the same time the networks have moved from software and hardware based platforms, (programs executed over someone's CPU), to solid state ASIC technology. Why is it then, that the folks famous for building security products have been lagging behind the technology curve? This hurts the Warfighter. This hurts the budget. This hurts security mission as a whole because people inherently get frustrated with delayed communications.

ASIC based layer 3 switching devices and ASIC based routing devices have helped build faster networks. With all those upgrades, software or software and CPU based security products have been used traditionally in the middle of a high speed network that acts as an effective bottleneck to critical data. It is very probable that the security industry will take note of what happened to the software-based routers and switches of past and also move to hardware-based solutions in the future.

NetScreen offers fully integrated appliances based on ASIC technology today! These are high-performance security appliances that integrate firewall, VPN, and traffic management services, all with industry-leading performance and industry standard network and security protocols. Although NetScreen is known for speed, (they where the first to offer an integrated VPN and Firewall that can break the gigabit barrier), its the features of the product that gives them a clean and desirable foundation.

They support network-to-network, site-to-site and remote access VPN applications with the features you expect. Industry standard 3DES and DES encryption at near wire speeds, using digital certificates (PKI X.509), IKE auto-key, or manual key technology, SHA-1 and MD5 strong authentication. NetScreen's VPN products are ICSA certified IPSec and VPNC tested compatible with other IPSec certified devices so that your organization can maintain their investments in legacy technology as well.

Hub and spoke support simplifies large-scale configuration for widely deployed VPN networks, alleviating the need to configure tunnels between all remote sites. Instead of configuring VPN tunnels between every remote site, this allows your customer to configure one VPN tunnel to the central site, and let the central site route the traffic to the correct remote site. Installing and managing the product is easily accomplished using the WebUI, the command line interface, or NetScreen's central management solutions. NAT and PAT support assists with the configuration of large-scale deployments.

If your needs demand firewall capability, NetScreen's ICSA certified firewalls use stateful inspection technology, securing against intruders and denial-of-service attacks and the custom built ASIC processes the firewall access policies and encryption algorithms at solid-state speeds. If you are just looking for a VPN, NetScreen offers stand alone VPNs also.

If traffic management is an issue, Netscreen products allow a network administrator to monitor, analyze, and allocate bandwidth utilized by various types of network traffic in real time; ensuring mission-critical traffic is never compromised for web surfing. Users can be managed via IP Address, user, application, or time of day profiles. Both guaranteed bandwidth and maximum bandwidth thresholds can be set and eight levels of prioritization can be applied.

If you have demand for SOHO (small office, home office) products, the NetScreen Client, the NetScreen 5 and 10, and the NetScreen 100 may be the solution. Net Screen has a few customers that will be looking for super large deployments and will want the ISP level performance of the NetScreen 1000 offers. It looks like that the products of the future will provide VPN and Firewall capabilities at ASIC processed, near wire rate speeds comensurate with the high speed backbones they are building today. Currently this is unique to NetScreen. The product is simple to configure and we have engineering resources available for immediate deployment .

ComTest to rep Decision Research Corporation

ComTest is happy to announce that it has begun representing a local software and systems developer, Decision Research Corporation, in order to help our customers meet all of their technology needs. Decision Research Corporation is a Honolulu based software developer and IT consulting company. The company was founded in 1971 and currently has 55 employees in offices in Hawaii and in Massachusetts.

Decision Research Corporation (DRC) specializes in business software and system development for very large organizations. Our projects involve the use of massive databases, complex networks, and high transaction volumes. For example, a major software system which DRC developed for American International Group, Inc. (AIG), which is the largest investor owned insurance company in the United States, processes insurance related business transactions on a national scale. DRC has the skills to specify, design, develop, and install commercial data systems and networks, including the Internet and intranets.

During the year 2000, DRC did IT projects for a Kemper Financial, Unitrin Direct Insurance Company, and additional companies. We also performed various IT roles for AIG and Great American Insurance Company.

Due to the transaction volumes that can be generated over the Internet, DRC has developed in-depth expertise in scaling commercial applications and implementing browser technology. Due to the prevalence of legacy systems owned by DRC and by our customers, we maintain a wide range of technical skills ranging from Cobol to VB, C++ and XML.
